Frequently Asked Questions

Evenly FAQs

What is candle tunneling?

Candle tunneling happens when only the center of the candle melts while the sides stay solid. This creates a “tunnel” of wasted wax and shortens your candle’s burn time.

Why does candle tunneling happen?

The two main causes are:

  1. First burn mistakes: if you don’t let your candle burn to the edges the first time, the wax develops a “memory” and keeps tunneling.
  2. Wick too small: sometimes the wick just isn’t strong enough to melt the wax all the way across.

How do I fix a tunneling candle?

People try hacks like the aluminum foil method or the hair dryer method to reset the wax, but they’re messy and time-consuming. Evenly is designed to fix this issue easily - just place it on your candle and enjoy an even burn, no hacks required. See how the different candle tunneling fixes compare.

How do I prevent candle tunneling in the first place?

Follow the “first burn rule”: burn your candle for at least one hour per inch of diameter (so a 3" candle = ~3 hours). Trim your wick to ¼ inch before each light and keep candles away from drafts. Evenly helps candles reach a fuller melt more efficiently, reducing the risk of tunneling.

Will Evenly fit on my candle?

Evenly's Classic size is currently designed to fit standard medium-sized candles with a diameter between 2.9” and 3.6”.

We added subtle ridges to the underside to help it stay snug and centered within that size range. While it won’t fit every candle on the market just yet (especially extra-large or very small jars), we’re already exploring additional sizes for the future.

Is tunneling really that bad?

Yes - tunneling means you’re literally throwing away money in wasted wax. It also kills the vibe: the flame gets weaker, scent throw is reduced, and your luxury candle starts looking sad. Evenly solves that, so you get the most out of every candle you burn.

How long will my candles last with Evenly?

Because you get a full wax pool, you’ll use more of the wax you paid for. That means longer burn time, stronger scent throw, and better value out of every candle.
